a couple of+n(c).作主语时谓语动词通常用单数。
它有两个含义
1、两个
There is a couple of boys waiting for you.
有几个男孩在等你。
2、一些，几个
I don't know why I feel so tired,I only had a couple of drinks.
我不知道为什么我这么累，我只喝了几杯。
英语中主谓一致原则
一般现在时态中谓语和主语必须在人称和数上保持一致，最基本的原则是：单数主语用单数动词，复数主语用复数动词，但在实际使用当中情况比较复杂，比如以下例子：
1、"more than one +单数名词＂作主语时，谓语动词常用单数，例句：
More than one teacher gets the flowers.
不止一个教师得到了花。
2、"many a +单数名词＂作主语时，从意义上看是复数，但谓语动词常用单数，例句：
Many a student has been sent to plant trees.
很多学生被派去植树。
3、"half of,the rest of,most of,all of及百分数或分数＋of等后接名词＂作主语时，谓语动词形式根据of后的名词而定，例句：
Three fourths of the surface of the earth is covered with water.
地球表面四分之三为水所覆盖。
Three fourths of the students in our class are boys.
我班四分之三的学生是男生。

通常a couple of后面用复数名词,它的意思相当于a few.a couple of days的意思相当a few days.这类词组作主语时,谓语动词常用复数形式,例如：A couple of/ a few days have passed.但用于there be的句型时,因为习惯上要遵循就近一致的原则,所以一般用单数的动词形式,例如：There is a couple of vacant rooms behind the office.
